Support Alternative Revenue Sources

Support the Use of Alternative Revenue Sources to Fund Human Services and Education

Encourage lawmakers to begin using alternative sources of revenue, such as elimination of certain tax exemptions and subsidies, and closing tax loopholes for big corporations, as realistic methods for funding human services and education.

The Florida Developmental Disabilities Council has joined Florida’s People /Florida’s Promise and supports their positions;

The Council’s Position;

·         In today’s uncertain times, Florida’s most vulnerable families are teetering on the edge of disaster. Revenue losses and a slowing economy are leaving The Sunshine State’s most vulnerable citizens in the dark. Our children, the elderly, and those with special needs were hit hard by budget cuts in 2008 – and deeper cuts could be coming in 2009.

·         There ARE alternatives to simply slashing what remains of our families’ safety net. But to protect Florida’s quality of life, business climate and those most vulnerable, Florida’s leaders must consider new ideas.

·         Now, a broad coalition of respected groups – representing children, elders, taxpayers, and others – is demanding that Florida’s elected officials find fresh, wise, and cost-effective solutions.
