Where Will the Money Go?

Most of Florida’s state agencies have received federal stimulus dollars. At the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council meeting on June 12, Council members who are agency leaders described how their agencies will be spending the stimulus monies to assist individuals with developmental disabilities.  More

Message from the Director

According to the Agency for Persons with Disabilities’ (APD) website, APD provides services each month to approximately 35,000 Floridians with autism, mental retardation, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, Prader-Willi syndrome, and children aged 3 to 5 who are at high risk of being diagnosed with a developmental disability. There are also approximately 18,000 children and adults with developmental disabilities who are still waiting for services.  Some have been waiting for more than five years. More

Advocating for Individuals with Autism

The Governor's Task Force on Autism Spectrum Disorders was established by Governor Charlie Crist through Executive Order 08-36 on March 7, 2008 and extended by Executive Order 09-82 on April 1, 2009. So far, the Task Force has already developed one comprehensive report of recommendations for addressing autism in the State of Florida and will begin working on another in time.  More
