  • Director of Programs

Remote | 30 Hours per Week

Make an Impact. Build Strong Programs. Help Shape a More Inclusive Florida.

The Florida Developmental Disabilities Council (FDDC) is seeking an accomplished Director of Programs to help advance initiatives that improve opportunities, services, and outcomes for Floridians with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

This is an opportunity for a seasoned professional who enjoys taking important initiatives from idea to implementation—developing programs, managing contracts, evaluating results, collaborating with partners, and ensuring that resources are used effectively to achieve meaningful outcomes.

Reporting to the Chief of Programs & Research, the Director of Programs will manage assigned initiatives resulting from the Council’s five-year state plan, ensuring projects are successfully developed, implemented, and managed within established budgets, timelines, contractual requirements, and Council policies.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you’ll combine program development, contract management, evaluation, and relationship building. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Researching and developing innovative project ideas and proposals aligned with the Council’s state plan.
  • Developing Invitations for Proposals (IFPs), sole-source procurements, and bids for Council initiatives.
  • Developing, negotiating, and managing contracts with selected providers.
  • Serving as the primary Contract Manager and providing technical assistance to help providers achieve desired outcomes.
  • Monitoring deliverables, data, performance measures, and contract compliance.
  • Evaluating program outcomes and maintaining accurate documentation for assigned contracts.
  • Developing and supporting designated Council task forces.
  • Preparing programmatic information for federally required Program Performance Reports.
  • Managing special projects and other Council initiatives.
  • Building productive, collaborative relationships with providers, agencies, organizations, Council members, staff, and other stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is a seasoned program leader and subject-matter expert who can independently manage complex initiatives while remaining highly collaborative.

You should bring:

  • An advanced degree (master’s or doctorate) in a relevant field.
  • 10 years of experience in program development, implementation, and/or oversight of large federal, state, and/or private grants or contracts.
  • Experience in the disability sector, preferably involving intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act (DD Act).
  • Knowledge of program evaluation practices and methodologies.

You’ll Thrive Here If You….

Are highly organized and comfortable managing multiple priorities and deadlines. You know how to turn complex information into clear recommendations, pay close attention to details, and follow projects through to completion.

Just as importantly, you value integrity, collaboration, respect, and accountability. You can build strong partnerships, facilitate effective meetings, communicate with a wide range of audiences, and work independently while remaining an engaged member of a remote team.

You should also be comfortable interacting patiently and respectfully with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

Why Consider FDDC?

This isn’t simply a contract-management position. Your work will directly support programs and initiatives designed to improve the lives of people with developmental disabilities throughout Florida.

The position offers the opportunity to:

  • Do mission-driven work with statewide impact.
  • Manage significant initiatives with a high degree of professional independence.
  • Work collaboratively with organizations and professionals throughout Florida.
  • Apply your expertise in program development, contracting, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
  • Work in a remote/remote-hybrid environment, generally not exceeding 30 hours per week.
