Highlights & Celebrations
• FDDC Annual Report:
FDDC shared progress made during Year 4 of the Council’s 5-year state plan, highlighting training, advocacy, and statewide projects supporting individuals with I/DD and their families.
• Older Americans Month:
Council Member Yolanda Herrera emphasized the importance of accessible support systems and clearer pathways to services for aging caregivers of individuals with I/DD.
• 2026 AGEDD Summit:
Self-advocates, caregivers, providers, and community leaders gathered in Kissimmee to strengthen partnerships and improve support systems for aging individuals with I/DD and their families.
• National Water Safety Month:
FDDC highlighted drowning prevention awareness and shared water safety resources for families of children with autism.
• Teacher Appreciation Week:
Recognition was given to educators, especially ESE teachers, for their dedication, compassion, and lasting impact on students and families.
Opportunities & Advocacy
• AMPLIFY! Advocacy Calls:
Monthly Zoom calls continue connecting self-advocates across Florida to share resources, experiences, and advocacy information.
• FL SAND Fellows Leadership Program:
Applications are open for the 2026–2027 fellowship year for experienced self-advocates looking to strengthen leadership and advocacy skills. Deadline: August 15, 2026.
• Partners in Policymaking (PIP):
Applications remain open for this leadership training program that prepares individuals with I/DD, family members, and guardians to advocate effectively at all levels of government. Deadline: June 30, 2026.
• Route to Self-Determination Workshop:
An in-person Orlando workshop focused on goal setting, independence, and self-determination skills for self-advocates ages 16 and older.
• Florida Youth Leadership Forum (YLF):
Held July 7–11, 2026 at Florida State University, helping youth ages 15–21 develop leadership and self-advocacy skills.

• Podcast – “Our Work Matters”:
May’s episode focuses on mental health awareness, dual diagnosis, and support systems for individuals with I/DD.
• Video Series – “Our Care Matters”:
The series continues amplifying stories from Floridians with developmental disabilities and caregivers, now surpassing one million video plays statewide.
• In the News:
Recent stories highlighted disability advocacy initiatives, inclusive arts programs, transportation supports, autism awareness efforts, Special Olympics participation, and new accessibility technologies.
